development of our delegates as we reevaluate the relationship between Japan and the United States on several critical

On July 26, the American delegation will welcome the Japanese delegation
after their long journey. In Indiana, we hope to see the agricultural
and local dimension of the United States through visits to a
farm and the state government. This smaller community will give the
delegates a chance to kick-off JASC by getting to know each Alumni to
Attend JASC Opening Ceremony A Message from the 62nd JASC Executive
Committee other better, setting the tone for the remainder of the
program. The central location of Indiana also offers us the chance to
meet with the Korea-America Student Conference (KASC) for the first time
at Trine University in Angola, Indiana since KASC is being held at the
nearby University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.
The next stop will be Washington, D.C. Delegates will have the chance to
be immersed in different aspects of the federal government and gain
insight into the politics behind U.S.-Japan relations, while contrasting
the federal system with the state-level government in Indiana. They
will also get to experience American
family culture first-hand through a short homestay. Alumni near DC
interested in hosting JASC delegates should contact JASC at
Our next stop will be New Orleans, Louisiana, the birth place of Jazz.
Five years after Hurricane Katrina, New Orleans is still a city that is
rebuilding and rebranding itself. Through community service, dialogue
and communication the delegation will engage local citizens.
Additionally, we will have the opportunity for an intensive exploration
of U.S.-Japan relations with a visit to the National World War II Museum
and delegate-led special topic discussions.
Our final site is San Francisco, California, a city with great diversity
and a unique cultural climate. We will engage in a forum exploring
Japanese-American internment. The delegates will come to a greater
understanding of the differences between assimilation and integration
and the ways in which America harmonizes various cultural traditions.
Finally, the hard work of each roundtable will culminate in the
presentation of their projects at Final Forum on August 17. Please see
page 8 for event information. Invitations to regional alumni will be
sent via email from ISC, so please be sure that your contact information
is updated at
We welcome you to come to our events and
share your JASC stories with delegates. See you soon!
